Dear EPS Families and Staff,
We know the waiting and wondering about when and what the Governor’s next announcement might be is hard -- we are waiting and wondering, too. But we really don’t know any more than you do. We’ve heard that staff and teachers are receiving many calls and emails asking about what will happen on March 30. We don’t know. But we continue to prepare for the possibility of Distance Learning for an extended period of time based on what we are seeing in other states around the country. All any of us can do is to “stay tuned” for more information to come.
DISTANCE LEARNING HAS NOT BEGUN!
A reminder that we have not begun the implementation of Distance Learning but we continue to plan and prepare. There are no assignments yet. EPS staff is very busy working on curriculum and we ask for your patience. And don’t forget -- next week is Spring Break! The earliest date that Distance Learning would begin is March 30...if the Governor closes schools.
VIRTUAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING, MONDAY, MARCH 23
Pursuant to district Policy 205, last Monday’s postponed regular meeting of the School Board has been rescheduled for Monday, March 23, 7 p.m., as a virtual meeting. In accordance with social distancing guidelines outlined by the CDC and Gov. Tim Waltz, in-person attendance at the meeting will be limited to 10 people: Five School Board and district staff members, and five audience members. The majority of School Board members will attend the meeting remotely. Members of the public are strongly encouraged to not attend the meeting in person, and instead to watch the meeting via the district’s YouTube livestream.
The Board remains committed to listening to and representing the community and their voices during this challenging time. Anyone wishing to address the Board should email their comments to SchoolBoard@edinaschools.org by noon on Monday, March 23. The Board will read aloud a representative sample of messages that pertain to items on the meeting’s agenda.
In addition, the agenda has been abbreviated to include Consent and Action items, but no Discussion items. Agenda items include:
- South View Roof Bid Approval
- Valley View School Renovation
- 2020-21 Budget Alignment Plan - Note: The 2020-21 Budget will not be finalized until the June Board meeting. This is a preliminary discussion.
Full meeting agendas are available on the School Board section of the district website and are posted three days prior to the meeting. Meeting agendas, dates and times are subject to change.
District buildings are closed to the public, with the exception of the sites where childcare is being provided for families who qualify under the Governor’s guidelines. Meal pickup continues curbside at the Middle Schools, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Phones will be answered and calls returned between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, most often by staff working remotely.
