EHS Concert Band to perform at MMEA Midwinter Clinic

Edina High School Concert Band Feb. 7, 2019 - The Edina High School Concert Band was selected by a competitive audition process to perform for the prestigious Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) Midwinter Clinic at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Friday, Feb. 15 at 9:15 a.m.

The ensemble, consisting of 94 junior and senior student musicians, will present an hour-long concert titled, Awakening, which is described in the program as "a sort of enlightenment or a 'waking up' to a new idea, a new way of seeing things, a fresh start or a commitment to renew." The repertoire consists of seven compositions linked with this common theme.

"Fandango," composed by Joseph Turrin, features two guest soloists: the renowned trumpeter Charles Lazarus, and R. Douglas Wright, principal trombonist of the Minnesota Orchestra. In addition, Dr. Travis Cross, a professor of music at UCLA and former Edina High School band director, will be the guest conductor for "Bright Side," written in 2015 by Timothy Mahr, who dedicated the composition to the Edina Concert Band and its past director William A. Webb.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, visit mmea.org/midwinterclinic or edinabands.com
