Boys and Girls Teams Headed to State!
2/4/20: For the first time since 2011, the boys and girls teams will both head to the State Championship after finishing as runners-up in the Section 6 Championship race at Buck Hill on Tuesday.
In highly competitive race, the girls team finished 2nd, just 11 points behind Lakeville North. Sophie Shuster’s 5th place finish led the Hornets. Rock steady Ali Anselmo also laid down a lightening fast run to place her in the top 10, finishing 8th. Anna Busyn (17th) and Elsie Engman (20th) also put together blistering fast runs to round out scoring for the Hornets. Seniors Michelle Andruss and Allie Hoy added additional depth to this strong team. This finish helped solidify our girls among the best in the state.
The boys team earned the chance to defend their State title by finishing runner-up to an incredibly strong Lakeville South team. The boys skied great but couldn’t power past the Lakeville South team that placed 4 racers in the top 5. Adam Berghult ripped down the course at break neck speed to finish in 2nd overall, just .01 out of first. Tanner Hopkins continued his fantastic season with a 6th place finish and right behind him was Gavin Richards in 10th. Freshman Reid Sprenkle got in on the scoring action with a couple terrific runs that earned him 13th overall. Tommy Bowers put together a couple nice runs for added insurance. Thomas Ritten gained some valuable “big race” experience.
This total effort by the both teams helped make an already amazing season, just that much better.
Way to go, Hornets! Proud of you all!
