Boys Win Again, Girls Continue to Ski Strong, Finish 2nd
1/15/19 Excellent skiing by the Hornets tonight! Tonight’s race provided a little study break and the team took advantage of the opportunity.
The boys scored another strong win tonight. All of our top 7 point earners finished in the top 20 overall; that’s a pretty awesome accomplishment. The Berghult’s led the way again. I can’t be certain but I may’ve heard a sonic boom as Adam set a blistering pace on his way to earning another win. Lighting the afterburners just behind him was Carl in 4th. But what was especially nice was to see Will Utendorfer and Tanner Hopkins locking up 5th and 6th just behind Carl. That’s four smoking fast finishes well within the top 10. But it gets better. Andrew Anselmo continues to be solid, finishing 17th. Tommy Bowers rocked the course to finish 19th and Julian Thym put an exclamation point on the boys scoring tonight with his first top 20 finish. The Hornets finished with 411 points, followed by Minnetonka with 404 points. Orono was 3rd with 310 points. We’ll continue to work on improving our overall consistency while keeping the throttle wide open.
The girls continue to ski solidly as well. Five of our top 7 point earners finished in the top 20. Haley set the pace for our girls and made it look easy as she ripped the course to finish 2nd. Ali Anselmo continues to impress as she finished 9th. Lily Cushman got to work and threw down a couple very quick runs to finish 16th. Sophie Shuster came in swinging and finished 19th. Caroline Sprenkle closed out the top 20 with two solid runs. The girls finished in 2nd with 396 points, just behind Minnetonka’s 427 points. Orono was 3rd with 382 points. The girls are locked on with some incredibly tough competition and continue to work on attacking the course to give us that little bit we need to get us on top.
In addition to Edina, teams from Minnetonka, Orono, Eden Prairie, Wayzata, and Hopkins competed in this race.
The full team will be back in action against Section opponents at Mt. Kato on Friday.
