Boys Earn Trip To State; Girls Finish 6th
2/7/17: The boys team qualified for the State Championship with a second place finish in the Section 6 Championship race at Buck Hill on Tuesday. The girls team finished 6th overall, with Chloe Townsend qualifying for State as an individual.
The boys team earned their place in the narrowest of ways, finishing 1 point in front of Lakeville South and just behind first place finisher Mankato West. This result was a true team effort. Hayden Foley's skill as a forerunner provided early skiers with valuable insight on snow and course conditions. Daniel Brunker returned from a season long injury and set the pace for the team with his 7th place overall finish. After a couple of the guys ran into issues during their second runs, Sam Shideman and Jack Keenan stepped up their second runs to help the Hornets earn an opportunity to compete for their 3rd straight State title.
The girls team came into this race skiing well with solid finishes over other Section rivals. However, today they came up a bit short; such is the challenge in ski racing. Chloe Townsend led the girls and qualified for State as an individual with her 6th place finish. Our girls team is young and has a lot of promise. Look for them to make a strong run next year.
Way to go, Hornets! Proud of you all!
21boys teams and 20 girls team competed in the Section 6 Championship race.
