Quality seal from French Ministry awarded to Normandale Elementary

Oct. 10, 2019 – Edina Public Schools is pleased to announce Normandale Elementary has received LabelFrancÉducation, a quality seal granted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Education to foreign schools The LabelFrancÉducation seal promoting French dual-language programs of very high quality. LabelFrancÉducation has been awarded to 285 school in 53 countries. Normandale Elementary is the only school in Minnesota to receive this award.

The application process began during the 2017-2018 school year when the French Embassy encouraged Normandale staff to apply. Staff completed the application in French and described the immersion program in full detail. They also included evidence of promotion of Francophone cultures and relationships with other local French/Francophone organizations. “It was an intense and long process that required many documents to justify the validity of our immersion program,” said Sophie Toner, fifth grade teacher.

Staff hopes the LabelFrancÉducation will give the school additional opportunities for French resources and connections. Normandale is now connected to schools throughout the world that offer similar programming to students. “LabelFrancÉducation means that we are now recognized in France and the world for the quality of our immersion program and for our efforts at promoting Francophone cultures,” said Toner. Chris Holden, principal of Normandale, is proud of the recognition from the French government. “LabelFrancÉducation validates all the hard work staff and families have done to create a robust French immersion experience to our students,” said Holden.
