Sale of former transportation facility finalized

Nov. 16, 2017 - Edina Public Schools (EPS) closed on the sale of the former transportation services facility on Eden Avenue on Nov. 15. The buyer, Trammel Crow Chicago Development, Inc., finalized the sale for a purchase price of $4.7 million, per the purchase agreement approved by the School Board in March.

Proceeds from the sale will be applied to the construction cost of the new facility located in southwest Edina, which was included in the 2015 Next Generation Facilities Plan. The district’s transportation operations and vehicle fleet moved to the new facility in August, where there is increased space to house the district’s vehicles and improved service, maintenance, and office facilities.

The sale of the transportation facility is “historic,” according to Margo Bauck, director of business services. “The sale of the old building and construction of a new one has been looked at, literally, for decades,” she said. “That we could get both done in one year is amazing.” Bauck expressed gratitude to members of planning teams, staff and the district’s partners at the City of Edina, all of whom played a role. “This is good not only for our bus drivers and transportation staff,” she said, “it is good for our students and families.”
