Derrin Lamker Named Head Football Coach at Augsburg University.

Edina High School (EHS) congratulates Derrin Lamker on his appointment as Head Football Coach at Augsburg University.

Derrin returns to coach his alma mater where as an Auggie athlete he played football, basketball and baseball.  Lamker earned MIAC Most Valuable Player honors in the 1997 conference championship and NCAA tournament season, was an All-Region and All-America honoree, and a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, given to the Division III national player of the year. He was a two-time All-MIAC honoree in football, throwing for 6,624 yards and 46 touchdowns in his career. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Augsburg in 1997 and later earned his master’s degree in education from Saint Mary’s. Derrin was inducted into the Augsburg University Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements in 2018.

"It is with a heavy heart that I leave the Edina program,” said Coach Lamker. “It has always been a dream of mine to return to my alma mater Augsburg University. Edina has been a special place for me and my family and is a unique place where staff, students, parents, and administration are all on the same page. I truly believe the Edina football program is in an outstanding position for success for the future. I want to thank all parents, students, staff, and administration for a wonderful 3 years!”

Derrin has spent the last 3 years as Edina’s Head Coach, compiling an overall record of 20-11 with two Section Finals appearances and a Section Championship in 2017 – the Hornets first trip to the State Tournament since 2012.  His leadership of the high school program has been successful due in large part to his connection with student-athletes and his relationship with growing the sport through his youth camps and involvement within the Edina Football Association.

Coach Lamker served as Offensive Coordinator at Edina for the 2016 season.  Prior to Edina, Derrin spent 11 years as the Head Football Coach at Osseo, where the Orioles won 3 conference titles, 2 section titles and in 2015, won the Minnesota State 6A Championship. Lamker has been named Northwest Suburban Coach of the Year in 2006, 2013, 2014, Section Coach of the Year in 2014 and 2015 and Class 6A Minnesota Coach of the Year in 2015. As a head football coach Derrin is 94-50.  He currently resides in Maple Grove with his wife, Amy, and two daughters, Jordyn and Shea.

Troy Stein, Assistant Principal and Activities Director at EHS said, “It has been a pleasure to work with Derrin the past three years. His passion for the game, desire to grow well rounded student-athletes, and commitment to all students at Edina High School will be his legacy. I have no doubt he will be very successful at Augsburg as head football coach. We wish him all the best in this transition to coaching at the college level.”

The search for a new head football coach will begin immediately.
