Matt Gabrielson Named Head Boys' Track and Field Coach

 

“I'm thrilled to step into the position of Head Coach for the boys’ Track and Field team. Having worked with the team years ago and keeping tabs on them since, I know what talented, driven student-athletes we have at Edina, and I feel honored to have been chosen to lead the team. I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence while bringing new energy to the track with the goal of continuous improvement.” Said Matt Gabrielson. “As a teacher at Highlands Elementary in Edina I am committed to equity & inclusion and will continue to honor these values as the head track coach. I cannot wait for the season to get started.”

 

Matt has been teaching at Highlands Elementary since 2013. In the fall; Matt is the Head Girls’ Cross Country Coach, a role he has served since 2011. Matt was the 2015 Minnesota Girls’ Cross Country Coach of the Year. That same year he helped guide the Hornets to our first Girls’ Cross Country State Championship. Matt is passionate about running and growth in performance. Matt has personally been ranked in the top 10 in the United States for the 5000m and marathon in 2008.  

 

“I am thrilled to have Matt Gabrielson lead our boys’ Track & Field program,” said EHS Assistant Principal and Director of Activities Troy Stein.  “Matt has a strong passion for heath, wellness and leading student-athletes to be the best they can be in life. He is a well-respected teacher and coach in Edina and I am proud to add him to our spring coaching staff. His knowledge and experience in coaching is remarkable.”
