Dip Into Fitness This Spring at Edina Community Ed
“Once my students come and dip their foot in the pool, they are hooked,” says Edina Community Education’s long-time swim instructor Kay Zuccaro. “The water is awesome for our bodies’ movement and mobility, plus the class camaraderie is nothing but supportive and encouraging.”
Research shows that water-based exercise can decrease disability, help people with chronic diseases and improve quality of life for seniors. According to the Centers for Disease Control, hydrotherapy improves the use of affected joints without worsening symptoms for arthritis, decreases pain from osteoarthritis and has shown to improve or maintain the bone health of post-menopausal women.
Kay Zuccaro understands these significant benefits and will again offer a variety of water-based exercise classes this Spring and Summer. Certified as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Instructor, and Water Fitness Instructor, Kay’s been the Aquatics Supervisor for the past 20 years. Her mission is to help adults and children feel comfortable in the water, build self-esteem, and understand water safety.
From Arthritis Aquatics to Water Aerobics, each different class offers benefits of working out in the water. “The water’s buoyancy plays a key role in this type of work out,” says Kay. “It really helps to protect muscles and joints against injury. What’s there not to love about that?”
