Edina teacher selected as Economic Educator of the Year

Dec. 3, 2019 - Steven Cullison, a teacher at Edina High School, has been selected by the Minnesota Council on Economic Education (MCEE) as the 2019 Economic Educator of the Year. This award was given to Cullison in Steve Cullison recognition of his commitment to excellence in economic education for grades 9-12.

Cullison, a graduate of Edina himself, has taught economics and other courses for six years at EHS. “I enjoy teaching economics because it’s applicable and relevant for students. AP Economics participates in a variety of competitions, and won the state championship in the Econ Challenge in 2018. We’ll send a team to compete at Harvard in the spring,” Cullison said. “Some of the best students in Edina come through my room, and they make me look good.” 

Cullison holds a degree in psychology from The University of Minnesota, a Masters in Teaching from St. Thomas University, and an Educational Specialist in School Leadership from St. Thomas University. Besides social studies, he is also licensed in school administration and special education. 

The Minnesota Council on Economic Education works to teach people about today’s complex economy by equipping them with personal financial and economic understanding. This is accomplished through educating teachers, working with students, and developing relationships in the community.
