Check your email for Calendar Survey

Oct. 8, 2019 - An Academic Calendar Preferences Survey has been sent, via email, to all district parents and employees as the calendar planning process begins. A Calendar Committee comprised of district parents, staff and administrators, is working to create academic calendars for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years. The primary objective is to create an academic calendar that is optimal for student learning with strong consideration given to convenience for families and staff.

The group must work within state requirements for student contact days and parameters approved by the School Board in a Guiding Change Document. Testing schedules, professional development requirements, along with major religious and cultural holidays, all contribute to how an academic calendar lays out for a given year.

District construction greatly influences determination of the dates for the school year to begin and end. Given the projects planned for the next three summers, it has already been decided that the next two academic years will begin before Labor Day. This brings the school year to an earlier end in the spring, giving construction projects early access to contractors.

Input provided by survey participants will assist the committee in making decisions about length and timing of breaks and other non-student days. However, the survey’s intent is to gather input -- it is not a “voting” device. Preferences indicated by parents and staff will be considered alongside other requirements.
