New technology improves safety, reliability of AEDs

AED delivery Feb. 17, 2021 - Buildings throughout the district will receive an upgrade of their automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to new, tech-savvy models that will increase dependability. Staff from Buildings and Grounds, Health Services, and District Media and Technology Services worked together to coordinate the project for the district. Many AEDs AED were well over 10 years old, with some beginning to fail and many batteries unable to hold a charge.

The 18 new AEDs are WiFi-enabled and connected to the district’s network, which allows them to self-report on their condition monthly. This technological advancement will help make maintenance more automated and manageable, and ensure that district AEDs are always functional and prepared in case of need. The cabinets and door alarms where the AEDs have resided will also be updated when the new devices are configured. The new AED devices are configured and are being installed in district facilities over the next week.
