  • Board receives draft calendars for next two academic years

    Nov. 21, 2019 – District administrators presented drafts of calendars for the next two academic years to the School Board on Nov. 18. The proposed calendars are the work of a Calendar Committee comprised of parents, teachers, and administrators who have been meeting since September. In addition, a parent and staff Calendar Survey was conducted in October, which provided important input to the creation of the draft calendars.

  • Fifth EPS school receives Energy Star certification

    Nov. 6, 2019 - Cornelia Elementary School has received Energy Star certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The award recognizes the building’s performance in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency. Half of the district's schools are now certified.

  • Three elected to Edina School Board

    Nov. 5, 2019 – Voting residents of Edina Public Schools elected three to the School Board on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Julie Greene, Janie Shaw and incumbent Leny Wallen-Friedman were elected from a field of seven candidates.

  • Solar installations will produce savings for district

    Oct. 31, 2019 - An array of solar panels has been installed on the roof of the Transportation Services facility, and next summer another array will be installed atop Cornelia Elementary. Together, they are expected to produce a savings to the district of approximately $10,000 in electricity in the first year, with savings to grow over time.

  • Bond refinance results in savings; Moody’s reaffirms district Aaa rating

    Oct. 29, 2019 - Edina homeowners will see a small reduction in the portion of their property tax assigned to the school district following the refinance of a district-issued bond. As part of the process, Moody's again assigned EPS with the highest credit rating available to school districts.

  • EHS grads post higher ACT scores in all subject areas

    Oct. 22, 2019 - ACT test-takers in Edina High School’s Class of 2019, posted higher average scores than previous years in all subjects, according to the 2019 ACT College Readiness Report. Average scores in the English and Reading tests are the highest for EHS in the past five years.

    Oct. 16, 2019 - A team of South View Middle School educators and administrators were honored by the Institute for Personalized Learning with the Trailblazer Award at the group’s 10th Annual National Convening Oct. 7-8.

  • French government recognizes Normandale principal’s devotion to language, culture

    Oct. 10, 2019 – Chris Holden’s ability to spark learners has not gone unnoticed. During a school assembly in September, Holden was honored as a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques (Knight of the Order of Academic Palms) by the Consul General of France in Chicago.

  • Quality seal from French Ministry awarded to Normandale Elementary

    Oct. 10, 2019 – Edina Public Schools is pleased to announce Normandale Elementary has received LabelFrancÉducation, a quality seal granted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Education to foreign schools promoting French dual-language programs of very high quality. LabelFrancÉducation has been awarded to 285 school in 53 countries. Normandale Elementary is the only school in Minnesota to receive this award.

    Oct. 8, 2019 - An Academic Calendar Preferences Survey has been sent, via email, to all district parents and employees as the calendar planning process begins. A Calendar Committee comprised of district parents, staff and administrators, is working to create academic calendars for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years.

  • Joint concert at EHS will feature 25 steel drums

    Sept. 26, 2019 - Thirty members of the Rising Stars group will visit Minnesota exclusively, on a rare tour to the U.S., because of Edina’s unique relationship with them. On Monday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., the steel drum instrumentalists will perform in a joint concert that will feature more than 25 steel drums. The Rising Stars will share the stage with the Edina Concert Band and Concert Orchestra at Fick Auditorium.

  • Board seeks stakeholder input on draft strategic plan

    Sept. 12, 2019 - After months of work, the Edina School Board is ready to share a draft of the next strategic plan for Edina Public Schools in a series of invitation and open stakeholder meetings, and an online feedback form. The Board is expected to approve the Draft 2020-2025 Strategic Plan at the Sept. 16 regular meeting.

  • Student artist’s artwork will become public sculpture

    Sept. 12, 2019 - Across the district, hundreds of elementary student participants entered the “Better Together” student sculpture competition, hosted by the Edina Arts and Culture Commission and the Edina Community Foundation. This competition involved student creating 3-D model of a sculpture, known as a “maquette,” to represent what “Better Together” means to them.
