  • Director of DMTS honored with IMS Global Leadership Award

    Nov. 12, 2020 – Steve Buettner, director of District Media and Technology Services for Edina Public Schools, will receive the 2019 IMS Global Leadership Award on Monday, November 16. This award recognizes IMS Global members who have gone above and beyond in displaying leadership.

  • EHS writers and publication among winners in Gold Medallion contest

    Oct. 29, 2020 – Four Edina High School students received recognition from the Minnesota High School Press Association for their stories featured in the Zephyrus student news publication. In addition to individual awards, the EHS yearbook Whigrean received the MHSPA Gold Medallion Award, the highest award given to a Minnesota high school publication.

    Oct. 29, 2020 - Fourteen District employees retired this fall. Collectively, they contributed 267 years of service to Edina students, families and colleagues. We want to thank and honor them now, and give the community a chance to do the same, as these former employees begin their retirement adventure.

  • USDA extends free meals for students through end of school year

    Oct. 20, 2020 - The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that the free meals program for students has been extended through June 30, 2021. It is part of the USDA’s commitment to ensuring access to nutritious food for school children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Additional solar projects capture savings, educational opportunity

    Sept. 28, 2020 - Edina Public Schools has 1,684 more reasons to smile on sunny days. That’s the number of solar panels installed at three District sites over the past two months. The District expects to dramatically increase its savings in electricity costs -- savings that will continue to increase over time.

  • EPS students maintain high AP results despite COVID

    Sept. 17, 2020 - More than 86% of Edina students who took AP tests last spring scored 3 or higher, consistent with scores over the past four years despite the unique challenges presented by COVID-19. Of the 1,176 Edina students who took AP exams, 507 earned recognition as AP Scholars in four categories.

  • School Board shifts to partial in-person meetings

    Sept. 16, 2020 - School Board Chair Erica Allenburg announced at the Sept. 14 meeting that the Board has begun conducting its regular meetings in a partial in-person format at the District Office Conference Room, with limited public seating available in the adjacent collaborative space. Construction in the Board Room is expected to be completed in February.

    Aug. 13, 2020 – City of Edina Mayor Jim Hovland, presented the Edina MealFund with the Mayor’s Commendation for Service to Youth on Aug. 3. This commendation is presented annually to any individual or organization making a positive impact on the lives of Edina youth.

  • First day of school moves to Sept. 8 following Board approval

    Aug. 11, 2020 – The Edina School Board unanimously approved a recommendation by administration to move the first day of school for the 2020-21 school year from Aug. 31, to Tuesday, Sept. 8, the day after Labor Day. This allows for an additional five days for professional development and teacher preparation for the implementation of two new learning models necessitated by the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • Administration recommends change to school start date

    Aug. 7, 2020 - At the School Board Work Session on Aug. 6, district administrators presented a recommendation that the start date for the 2020-21 school year be moved to Sept. 8. The recommendation followed more than four hours of presentations by district administrators, school principals and program coordinators to update the Board on operational and instructional plans for the coming school year.

    Aug. 3, 2020 – South View Middle School is pleased to announce the hiring of Tricia Pettis and Kaela Loo as Dean of Students. The two will share the Dean position and also an instructional coach position, a role they have each served in during the past three years.
