  • Senior Planning Calendar - Class of 2019


    • Register for ACT (Sept. 8 deadline is Aug. 10)
    • College Process Meeting with your Counselor (mandatory) - Get Connected Monday, August 27


    • Make sure you are registered for the classes that your prospective colleges require.
    • Get off to a good start academically. Colleges will be looking very closely at your senior year grades.
    • Refine the list of schools to which you wish to apply
    • Write for (or download) catalogs and applications
    • Senior Parent College Night - Wednesday, September 12, Edina Performing Arts Center
    • Counselors meet with seniors about the college application process mid September
    • Arrange for letters of recommendation--give recommendation request, any forms, and stamped addressed envelopes to teachers 3 weeks prior to deadline
    • If counselor needs to complete a written recommendation letter, complete
      Questionnaire for School/Counselor Recommendation form and return it to your counselor 3 weeks prior to your deadline.
    • Parents complete Senior Parent Questionnaire.
    • Attend college representative meetings. Visits begin on September 17. Make sure you have your list of prospective colleges in Naviance - you will receive an email reminder when one of your schools visit)
    • Register for SAT (Oct. 6 deadline is Sept. 7)
    • Register for ACT (Oct. 27 deadline is Sept. 28)


    • October 1 deadline for elementary education at UW-River Falls
    • College Visits (especially October ; no school, MEA)

    • Submit completed applications to counseling office as needed

    • November 1 is deadline for military academy applications and some ROTC programs
    • November 1 and 15 - deadlines for some Early Decision and/or Early Action Applications
    • November 1 deadline for interior design and art education at UW-Stout
    • November 1, 2018--Priority DEADLINE for University of Minnesota applications
    • November 2 - Last day to take course Pass/No Credit
    • Register for SAT (Dec. 1 deadline is Nov. 2)

    • Register for ACT (Dec. 8 deadline is Nov. 2)
    • November 30 deadline for University of California system schools
    • Continue to submit applications as completed--most applications completed by the end of the month

    • Continue working on essays and personal statements
    • Investigate scholarship opportunities

    • All applications (with a January 1st or earlier deadline) that need to be completed before the holiday break must be turned into the Counseling Office by December 3.

    • Complete Mid-Year Request Form (no midyear grades will be sent without completing the form)

    • Remember to get university/college housing requests in as soon as possible

    • If you are waitlisted at a school, be sure to see your counselor.
    • College visits (to make final decisions)
    • Meet with counselor, if needed, to discuss options
    • Applications due for local scholarships to the counseling office mid April.

    • Thank the teacher(s) who wrote your college recommendation letters and let them know the results.


    • Students reply to colleges--May 1 is final reply date for most schools. (Make sure you return housing contracts and pay fees by deadline.)
    • Notify the other schools that you will not be attending
    • Final check with counselor

    • Senior Survey May 1: Post-Secondary plans (Arranges for final transcript to be sent to student's school of choice)
    • Local Scholarship Awards Breakfast (invitation only).
    • Edina Scholar Banquet-3.5 GPA or higher-weighted and unweighted (invitation only)
    • Academic Awards Ceremony (invitation only)
