Kindergarten FAQ

If you have a child who will turn five on or before September 1, 2026, your child is eligible to enroll in kindergarten for fall 2026.

Kindergarten registration is completed online. Registration for the 2026-2027 school year will take place in January of 2026.

You will be asked to upload scans or photos of the following items during the registration process:

• Proof of Residency (Edina Residents Only)
  • Wondering what qualifies as Proof of Residency? View Section 3 of the Board policy 509.
• Immunization Records
• Certified Birth Certificate, Passport/Visa, or official US Court/Government document indicating child's full legal name and birthdate.

Minnesota Statute 121A.15 requires that all children must be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B series, and varicella (or a record of chicken pox). Early Childhood Screen provides an overall check of your child’s development. Screening can be conducted as young as 3 years old and is required by the state of Minnesota prior to a student beginning kindergarten. Screening is free and available to students whether or not they attend Edina Public Schools. All screening is offered at the Edina Community Center. Make an appointment online at edinaschools.org/DevelopmentalScreening.

Because of staffing and enrollment changes made throughout the summer, class lists are not finalized until early to mid-August. Specific teacher assignments are shared with families at that time.

It is very helpful to the district’s future planning if we know of your decision not to enroll your child. Please let your neighborhood school or the Student Enrollment Center (952-848-4585) know if you are not planning to enroll your child in kindergarten.

If you wish to enroll in the Edina Public Schools at a later time, stop by the Student Enrollment Center at the Edina Community Center to complete your registration.
