Early Childhood Screening (ECS) is required by the State of Minnesota before your child can start kindergarten. This free screening checks your child’s development and helps make sure they are ready for school.

Schedule Early Childhood Screening

Before starting kindergarten, you must submit your child’s immunization record showing they have received the required vaccines.

Required immunizations include:

• HepB
• DTaP
• Polio
• MMR
• Varicella

Immunization Form

To complete enrollment, please have:

• One document showing your child’s full legal name and birthdate. Certified birth certificate, passport/visa, or official U.S. court or government document.
• Proof of residency (Edina residents only). View section 3 of Board Policy 509 on the District Policy Manual page to learn what qualifies as proof of residency.

If you’re interested in a Choice Program, submit the Choice Program Form by the due date. Placement is determined by a lottery, so submitting the form does not guarantee a spot.

During the enrollment window, complete an online enrollment form. This step is for all families, regardless of whether you have submitted a Choice Program form.

Complete the online enrollment form for the school year you wish to enroll your child in.

If you do not live in Edina, you must apply through Open Enrollment. Learn more by visiting our Open Enrollment page.

Fill out Section 1 of the General Statewide Enrollment Options Application and submit it to our Enrollment Center by January 15 to meet the state deadline.

• A separate application is required for each student.
• The listed parent/guardian address must be a Minnesota address.

Applications submitted after the deadline are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Families who submit their application by the January 15 deadline will be notified of approval or denial by February 15. If approved, move on to step three.

If your application is approved, families must complete the standard enrollment form for each approved student within the time window provided. The enrollment form requires:

• Proof of required immunizations. This includes, but is not limited to, HepB, DTaP, Polio, MMR, and Varicella.
• One document showing your child’s full legal name and birthdate. Certified birth certificate, passport/visa, or official U.S. court or government document.

Note: Families who do not complete enrollment within the provided window forfeit their spot at Edina Public Schools.
