Schools Unite for VEAP Food & Fund Drive
Under the leadership of the Edina Public Schools’ Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs), all schools will unite next week to support VEAP with a food and fund drive. VEAP is the food bank serving Edina, Richfield, and Bloomington.
The food drive will run from Monday, April 1 to Friday, April 5. Edina High School along with South View and Valley View middle schools will participate through monetary donations. The elementary schools and the Early Learning Center will host a physical item donation drive.
With the help of area businesses, organizations, and area school districts, VEAP has a goal to raise $300,000 by April 6, the equivalent of 900,000 meals. VEAP reports their most needed items include oatmeal and whole grain cereals, diapers, wipes, toilet paper, and other paper products, detergent, soaps, and other hygiene items, baking essentials like flour and oil, canned soups, gluten-free items, and rice. All items donated must be unopened, unexpired, and non-perishable.
VEAP is a basic needs and social services organization whose programs promote access to healthy foods, stable housing, and other supportive services. VEAP’s programs are designed to address a particular need and can help avoid a financial crisis such as loss of housing, transportation, or employment.
