Paul Paetzel named interim high school principal
Edina Public Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Paul Paetzel as the interim principal of Edina High School. Paetzel retired on July 1, 2023, from Wayzata Public Schools after a 37-year career in schools.
Paetzel has lengthy experience working in a high-achieving environment. He served as Wayzata East Middle School's principal for 15 years. He also served at Wayzata High School as an associate principal for four years and at Wayzata West Middle School as the associate principal for three years. Before Paetzel’s time in Wayzata, he worked in Bloomington Public Schools as a Dean of Students and a special education teacher.
"I see many parallels between Wayzata and Edina Schools," noted Paetzel. "Both are high-achieving and highly collaborative environments with a strong commitment to students. I am looking forward to getting to know more members of this outstanding community, and to ensure we continue to define excellence in every student's experience at Edina High School.”
“Paul brings a wealth of experience in high achieving schools and a notable commitment to building supportive relationships across students, staff, parents, and community members,” Superintendent Dr. Stacie Stanley, shared. “We are grateful he is briefly coming out of retirement to help carry on our vision for each and every Edina High School student to discover their possibilities and thrive.”
Paetzel begins his one-year interim role today, Thursday, July 13.
Community members and staff, students and parents across the district are welcome to meet and greet Paetzel on Thursday, July 27 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Edina High School’s commons (enter door 5), 6754 Valley View Road Edina, MN 55439.
