Legislative platform presented by School Board committee
More than 70 people attended the School Board Legislative Action Committee’s Platform Breakfast on Jan. 7, where committee members introduced the 2019 platform and local legislators addressed the gathering.
Five platform positions were developed by the LAC over the past several months. They are: to stabilize funding for education; increase state funding for mandated special education programs; reduce mandates and increase local control in order to raise the achievement level of all students; ensure safe and modern school facilities; increase and diversity the teacher workforce. Also in attendance were state legislators Reps. Heather Edelson and Steve Elkins, Sen. Melisa Franzen, and representatives from U.S. congressman Dean Philips’ office, who each addressed the gathering expressing support for public education.
The LAC invites community members to join them in their work as members of the mailings, calling or State Capital visits subcommittees. This work is ongoing now through the end of the legislative session. Find more information on the Edina Public Schools website at edinaschools.org/LAC
