Latin Club earns eight medals in competition

Six Edina High School students earned eight medals at the recent Ludi Romani state Latin competition at Minnehaha Academy, Jan. 13. The daylong event includes oral and written competitions, as well as opportunities for students to learn more about Roman culture with board games, crafts, and cooking.

The three-member team of Dylan Bergerud, David Ha and Chris Minge, all seniors, won a Gold Medal in the Certamen, a quiz bowl-type competition that tests students’ knowledge of Latin grammar, mythology, culture, and history.

The following students won individual medals in competitions based on experience level: Dylan Bergerud, Gold Medal in Roman History and Bronze Medal in Ancient Geography; David Ha, Silver Medal in Latin Grammar and Silver Medal in Word Derivation; Cole Weinstein, grade 10, Gold Medal in Latin Grammar; Sarah Bryan, grade 10, Gold Medal in Word Derivation; Brendan Polomis, grade 10, Silver Medal in Word Derivation. The team’s advisor is Emese Drew, EHS Latin teacher.
