Edina senior named Star Tribune All-Metro Sports Difference Maker
Congratulations to Edina Senior Allie Murphy for being named the Star Tribune All-Metro Sports Difference Maker for the 2020-21 school year! Murphy, a captain on the Girls’ Basketball team, wanted to use her platform as a student athlete to advance racial equality. In partnership with Edina’s Black Student Union, the team had candid conversations with black peers and former players to gain a deeper understanding of the issues. They not only wanted to educate themselves, but other teams in their conference. Snack boxes were presented to the opposing teams with snacks, a letter explaining their efforts, and an article from a former NBA player explaining white privilege and racism.
