Edina School Board to Interview Interim Superintendent for Permanent Position

The Edina Public Schools Board of Education is providing an update on its search for a new permanent superintendent, which began in December 2024. Following a comprehensive review of community and stakeholder feedback, the district’s leadership profile, and the qualities identified as most important for the next superintendent, the Board has decided to pause the external search and proceed with a formal interview of Interim Superintendent Dr. Daniel Bittman.

This decision comes after several months of planning, multiple meetings between the Board and its executive search firm, and an extensive period of community engagement. Based on this work, the Board believes there is strong alignment between the district’s current and future needs and the leadership Dr. Bittman has demonstrated during his tenure as interim superintendent, as well as the skills and experience he would bring to the role on a permanent basis.

The Board will conduct a public interview with Dr. Bittman to provide an opportunity for him to address how his leadership aligns with the needs of Edina Public Schools and to share his vision for the district’s future. The interview will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, and will be open to the public both in person and via live stream.

Throughout the superintendent search process, the Board has remained committed to honoring community voice, maintaining transparency in both process and decision-making, and taking the time necessary to ensure a thoughtful, long-term decision that supports the health, success, and excellence of Edina Public Schools. This next step reflects the Board’s careful consideration and its responsibility to act in the best interests of the district.
