Edina Public Schools Announces Nate Swenson as Assistant Superintendent
Edina Public Schools proudly announces Nate Swenson as the Assistant Superintendent of School Excellence and Innovation. With a career spanning 20 years in educational leadership, Swenson brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of fostering academic excellence and innovative practices within school districts. “Nate’s ability to engage communities and champion high engagement for all learners is admirable,” Superintendent Stanley said. “I am confident he will bring dynamic leadership that will amplify our efforts for students to discover their possibilities and thrive.”
Over the course of his career, Swenson served as the principal of Eden Prairie School district’s only middle school for eight years, where he oversaw a student body of nearly 2,000 students. Under his leadership, the school underwent significant capital improvement projects and expansion initiatives, while also spearheading the development of expanded pathways for students. Swenson’s experience in Eden Prairie is bookended by his principal leadership in Little Falls Community School where he has most recently served. During his recent tenure, Swenson provided leadership for many district-level projects, including the development of their current strategic plan. He has also held principal leadership positions in Osseo and Robbinsdale Area Schools.
Swenson brings not only a wealth of experience and expertise in strong principal leadership but also a highly relational approach that has consistently elevated educational environments wherever he leads. His strategic planning leadership across various schools and districts underscores his deep understanding of striving for excellence in educational settings.
Swenson earned a superintendent licensure and Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from St. Mary’s University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Science Teaching from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a minor in Earth Science. His exceptional contributions to education were recognized when he was named Middle School Principal of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals in 2020.
“I’m honored and humbled to be selected as the next Assistant Superintendent of School Excellence and Innovation. Edina Public Schools has a clear direction evidenced by its mission, vision, and strategic plan,” said Swenson. “Building relationships with stakeholders that are founded in trust along with championing the students, staff, and community of Edina are among my top priorities. I am eager to collaborate with the dedicated team at Edina Public Schools and contribute to the realization of our mission.”
Swenson is set to assume his new role on July 1, 2024, following the retirement of the current Assistant Superintendent, Randy Smasal, at the end of the school year.
