Edina MealFund receives Mayor’s Commendation
City of Edina Mayor Jim Hovland, presented the Edina MealFund with the Mayor’s Commendation for Service to Youth on Aug. 3. This commendation is presented annually to any individual or organization making a positive impact on the lives of Edina youth.
The collaboration between the Edina MealFund, the Edina Education Fund, and Edina Give and Go over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic was highlighted. They quickly created the COVID-19 Response Fund and raised $100,000 to purchase and distribute evening meals to families in need. The Edina MealFund has distributed over 40,000 dinner servings to families since buildings closed.
The Edina MealFund was created in 2016 and exists to ease the burden of school meal debt on families in a time of crisis, such as employment instability, illness, death, or food insecurity.
