Edina High School AVID Scholars Awarded 2024 Wallin Scholarship
Edina Public Schools is thrilled to announce that three exceptional students from Edina High Schools’ AVID program have been awarded the prestigious 2024 Wallin Scholarship. Congratulations to seniors Muna Mohamud-Karie, Yusuf Mahamud, and Samiya Yusuf who have earned the 2024 scholarship.
The Wallin Scholarship program, based in St. Paul, MN, is a competitive program that provides financial aid, mentorship, and access to a network of partners for community and career opportunities. Each scholar receives $16,000 over four years to support their educational journey.
To qualify for the Wallin Scholarship, students must attend a partner high school, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrate financial need, and plan to attend a 4-year institution in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, or any Historically Black College or University in the country.
Mohamud-Karie will be attending the University of Minnesota, College of Liberal Arts in the fall. Mahamud will be attending the University of Minnesota, College of Science and Engineering in the fall. Yusuf has several options, but has not yet committed to a college for next year. She has also been named a 2024 Dell Scholar this year.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a national program offered in Edina Public Schools for students in grades 7-12. The program prepares students for admission to a four-year college or university.
