District submits letter of intent to purchase property near EHS

On March 13, Edina Public Schools was approached by Suntide Realty regarding the Calvary Lutheran Church property sale at 6817 Antrim Road. The building is nearly 16,000 square feet, sits on 3.36 acres of land, is a 7-minute walk to the high school, and is listed for $2MM. The school board unanimously approved submitting a letter of intent to purchase the property. If our offer is accepted, it is important to note that the purchase will be financed with restricted operating capital funds. Per state statute, this funding source can only be used for very specific purposes, including acquiring land, buildings, vehicles, technology devices, and curriculum. It cannot be used for staff compensation.

Edina Public Schools was not searching for property to purchase. As a result, plans for how the district might use the property have not been established. If EPS is allowed to purchase the property, decisions regarding how to use the property would be made after garnering feedback from our district community.

We are thrilled about the potential opportunities securing this property would provide for our district and community. The property represents an incredible investment and location to extend programming to enable each and every student to discover their possibilities and thrive.

We anticipate hearing from the realtor in the next couple of weeks.
