Chamber honors Rieckenberg as Teacher of the Year

Dr. Cara Rieckenberg, a Continuous Progress teacher at Highlands Elementary, has been selected by the Edina Chamber of Commerce as the 2022 Teacher of the Year. The Chamber received many nominations for Rieckenberg from students and parents.

Rieckenberg has been an educator for 20 years. She was in the Prior Lake and Robbinsdale districts prior to coming to Edina in 2020. She has a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, and is an adjunct professor at St. Thomas, St. Kate’s and Hamline. She was the 2014 Minnesota Science Teacher of the Year.

Since joining the Highlands staff, Rieckenberg helped develop the Hammock Forest, brought MN Trout in the Classroom project to the school, and most recently her students placed third out of 1,500 entries in the Minnesota Zoo Wolf Competition for designing a wolf habitat.

Rieckenberg will be honored on April 20 at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon
