Board seeks stakeholder input on strategic plan draft

After months of work, the Edina School Board is ready to share a draft of the next strategic plan for Edina Public Schools in a series of invitation and open stakeholder meetings, and an online feedback form. The Board is expected to approve the Draft 2020-2025 Strategic Plan at the Sept. 16 regular meeting.

Draft plan review sessions will be held for parents, staff and community beginning this month. The review sessions include a presentation of the draft plan and a look back at input provided by parents and staff at the beginning of the planning process. The meetings will be facilitated by consultant Mirja Hanson who has worked with the School Board through the planning process.

In an effort to ensure that all voices are heard, there will be a series of invitation-only meetings for a stratified random sample of parents from groupings of elementary schools, middle schools and the high school, and a session for the Parent Leadership Council. Multiple review sessions are also planned for staff, and a session for district administration and principals.

An online feedback form will open later this month, offering another way for stakeholders to participate.

Open Review Meetings in October

Three open meetings for review of the draft strategic plan are slated for October. These meetings are open to parents who were not part of the random sample invitation or were unable to attend, EPS staff and community members who reside within school district boundaries:

  • Thursday, Oct. 3, 6:30-8 p.m., South View Auditorium
  • Wednesday, Oct. 9, 7-8:30 a.m., South View Auditorium
  • Tuesday, Oct. 15, 6:30-8 p.m., Normandale Auditorium

The School Board plans to use stakeholder input to finalize the strategic direction for possible approval within the next several months, to be followed by a process of action planning. The Draft Strategic Plan will be posted following approval by the School Board on Sept. 16.
