About
Defining Excellence
Edina Public Schools traces its origins to the earliest days of the Edina community, when learning began in one-room schoolhouses serving local families in the 1850s and 1860s. From these beginnings, a tradition of educational excellence took root, growing alongside our community for more than a century.
As Edina evolved, so did its schools. What began as small, rural classrooms has become a high-performing, comprehensive public school system recognized for both academic rigor and a deep commitment to student growth.
Today, Edina Public Schools serves approximately 8,500 students across six elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school, as well as online, early learning, and community education programs. Each reflects a longstanding investment in strong schools, thoughtful innovation, and opportunities that prepare students for a complex and changing world.
At its core, Edina Public Schools remains a community of neighbors, connected by a shared commitment to learning and to one another. Within this environment, students are challenged to think critically, explore their interests, and develop as capable, well-rounded individuals.
Guided by our shared purpose, Edina Public Schools continues a legacy of excellence — supporting each new generation as they discover their possibilities and thrive.

To educate the whole self morally, aesthetically, and intellectually, the individual must come in contact with every aspect of school life. Thus, the interrelationship of academics, activities, student life, sports, and classes forms a basic design of harmony and balance, the design of an education at Edina.
