    Student Bus Riders

    • Be on time - arrive five minutes ahead of the scheduled bus arrival time
    • Stand at least five feet back from the edge of the road while waiting
    • Wait for the bus to stop and the door to open before approaching the bus
    • Board single file, using the handrail -- don’t forget to greet the driver!
    • Move immediately to your seat and remain seated until you arrive at school
    • Large items (backpacks, instruments, packages) should be held on your lap or placed under the seat, not in the aisle
    • Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop and the door to open before standing to exit. Exit single file, holding the handrail.
    • Go directly into your school. At the end of the day, walk five feet away from the bus and turn and look at your bus driver to be sure they see you. Go straight home to check in before going to a friend’s house.

    Walkers/Bike Riders

    • Cross streets only at corners, preferably where crosswalks are indicated
    • Bike riders should follow the rules of the road and use hand signals to indicate their intent

    • Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring students arrive at their bus stop safely and on time
    • Review bus safety and behavior guidelines with your student(s), include their walking route to the bus stop and home

    • Never pass a school bus with the stop arm extended and red lights flashing, whether approaching from behind the bus or the front of the bus in the opposite lane
    • Be alert to students walking to bus stops and/or school, especially in neighborhoods where there are no sidewalks
    • Give pedestrians the right of way at crosswalks
    • Watch for bike riders sharing the road with you and crossing at intersections
