Class of 2020
This year the Edina High School 2020 Commencement will be part of a city-wide celebration of our graduates. While it may not look like our traditional commencement exercises, it is our opportunity to come together to celebrate the class of 2020! Edina High School is partnering with our PTO and Senior Party planning committee to make this a unique and amazing experience. The Senior Party committee encourages each family as well as their neighbors to decorate their homes and streets with Edina colors or lights in honor of the class of 2020. We invite everyone to participate! More information from the Senior Party committee will be communicated in the near future.
THE VIRTUAL COMPONENT - SATURDAY, MAY 30TH at 6:00 PM
Since we are not allowed to gather, our commencement speeches from our student speakers, staff speaker, Superintendent Schultz, Principal Beaton, and the School Board will be recorded. The link to this recording will be made available to seniors and families on May 30 at 6 p.m.. We are also exploring other means of broadcasting these speeches.
THE DISTRIBUTION OF DIPLOMA COVERS - SUNDAY, MAY 31ST
This year, the six EHS administrators as well as Dr. Schultz will be traveling in seven processions, each led by a decorated school bus, to the home of each of our resident and non-resident graduating seniors to deliver their diploma cover in person. The hope is that this approach offers the opportunity for the graduating senior to be celebrated by their families and neighbors.
A photographer will be traveling in each procession to get a photo of the graduate. Family can be included in the photo if desired. We will share these photos with families and also use them in a commencement slideshow which will be released in June. We anticipate that it will take a full day for each procession to visit each home. As soon as we have more information from senior families we will design the routes and give each family a window of time when they can expect the arrival of their graduate’s diploma cover. We certainly do not want graduates to have to wait around all day as they may have other celebrating they wish to do!
In preparation for the arrival of the procession, we ask that graduates be outside, dressed in their cap and gown, and have a table or some surface on which the diploma can be placed. There can be no handshake but there will be plenty of congratulations and long distance hugs! Unlike when we have names read at Mariucci and a stage to cross during a traditional graduation ceremony, we do not want this event to be quiet and subdued. We want to hear cheers from entire neighborhoods! These seniors have earned it! We understand that this is not the graduation that any of us anticipated, but it is now up to us to make it amazing for the Class of 2020!
There are links to forms below for necessary information we will need ASAP. Here is what we need to know:
OPT OUT FORM IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO PARTICIPATE
Each year, some EHS students choose not to participate in our traditional commencement ceremony. Therefore, we understand that some families may not wish to participate in our 2020 event. We respect that. If you prefer not to participate in this event and prefer NOT to have a procession from the high school stop at your home with your diploma cover, please complete this form by May 14. The diploma cover will be mailed when the actual diploma is mailed to all graduates later in June.
IMPORTANT - ADDRESS INFORMATION
ADDRESS UPDATES: We have pulled student addresses from Infinite Campus to begin creating the routes. If you have moved and your address is not up-to-date in the parent portal, please complete this form by entering your new address by May 14.
TWO ADDRESSES: If you have two addresses in the parent portal, you will need to choose one for the delivery. Please complete this form by entering the desired address by May 14.
After May 14, we will create the routes and be able to let families know approximate times when the processions will be passing through their neighborhoods. We will get that information out to you as soon as we have it. We understand there is planning to be done on your end as well! More information to come!
