At a special meeting on Feb. 16, the Edina School Board approved the candidate slate for first round interviews to fill the position of Edina Public Schools Superintendent. The board took action on recommendations put forward by executive search firm BWP and Associates. Lead search consultant, Dr. Debra Hill, noted that there were 29 applicants for the position, from which the firm brought six candidates for consideration to the school board. The board approved five candidates to interview.
The candidates are:
Dr. Michael Connolly – Superintendent, Keeneyville Elementary School District 20 (IL)
Mr. Patrick Devine – Superintendent, Waconia Public Schools (MN)
Mr. Jeffrey Holmberg – Assistant Superintendent of Schools, Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools (MN)
Dr. Brenda Lewis – Assistant Superintendent, Rochester Public Schools (MN)
Mr. Eric Schneider – Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, Minnetonka Public Schools (MN)
The first round of interviews will be held on Feb. 28, March 1 and March 2, with one or two candidates being interviewed by the board each evening. BWP will set up the schedule of interviews with candidates, which will be announced once confirmed.
After the last interview on March 2, the board will meet to narrow the slate to two or three finalists. Each finalist will then spend a day in the district on the week of March 6 during which the candidate will meet with focus groups of students, parents, staff, administration and community members, take part in a community forum and go through a second formal interview with the board.
On Thursday, March 9, the board will meet to deliberate and select its choice to replace Ric Dressen, who is retiring June 30. The board will then enter into contract negotiations and conduct a site visit if decided.
