Our 10th annual Countryside Against Hunger is just around the corner! This service-learning project will take place on Friday, February 3 with our Countryside students, families, and community members packing food for people who are hungry around the world. Each year, Countryside partners with ImpactLives, a local, non-profit organization, to make this service event happen. (See a video from 2016).
YOU CAN HELP!
Beginning January 18, we will be raising money to pay for the food we pack. Please help and encourage your child/children to set a fundraising goal and to achieve it. Are there extra household jobs that can earn money? Is there a special treat kids can skip and donate the money instead? If each student donates $15 we will be able to reach our goal of $10,000 and pack 60,000+ meals! Kids can look for the big collection box in front of the office to place their donations. Coins, cash, checks- it’s all accepted.
Checks should be made payable to “ImpactLives”.
We need adults to help the food packing run smoothly on February 3. Please consider volunteering for this FUN job (hairnet included)!
OUR KIDS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Each year we see the way this project grows our students’ compassion and caring for others. On packing day, the gym will be electric with energy and excitement, as the students show their Countryside PRIDE values hard at work.
"A quarter a day keeps the hunger away!"
The week of Jan. 30-Feb. 3, students can dress up for Spirit Week, sponsored by Kids Council. A suggested donation of a quarter each day will help us reach our goal…bring less, bring more, but dress up!
Monday, Jan 30 - Whack out hunger! (wear whacky hair or hats)
Tuesday, Jan 31- Put Hunger to Sleep! (wear pajamas)
Wednesday, Feb 1- Stomp Out Hunger! (wear boots/mix match shoes/crazy socks)
Thursday, Feb 2- Win Against Hunger! (wear sport jerseys or shirts)
Friday, Feb 3- Packing Day! Wear your Pride shirts!
After each packing session, students will have a chance to try a sample of the food they are packing. It’s optional and the ingredients are soy, rice, dehydrated vegetables, and vitamin powder. Students will then return to their classrooms for reflection and discussion on their impactful day.
We are looking forward to another fantastic Countryside Against Hunger event. Thank you for your enthusiasm and support of this special service-learning project. Questions? We will be happy to answer them.
